Hobby Master Ellerslie : Store X-Wing Champs

Hobby Master is one of our local hero brick and mortars championing gaming in our local region. As part of the series to thank our sponsors for backing our local club and tournaments we'll have a look at the their X-Wing store champs held over the recent weekend. Go in and get a game if you're interested. They have all the people and material to get you started.

As part of Fantasy Flight Games organised play program there will be a string of local hobby stores running their store champs for X-wing over the coming weeks. I was privileged to be asked to run this particular event and hosted our local community of X-wing Pilots. The atmosphere was calm and casual and brimming with fun. There were beginners and veterans playing on the day with plenty of prize support that everyone was going to go home with a bit of swag. As it approached the last round of the 4 round event the top half of the field still had a chance to take out the trophy. That's the best you can ask for a closely fought fight and the final round results still a factor in the race for 1st. this is a great example of how X-wing is such are fantastic game to play as everyone is competitive what ever list you play.

Are you ready to kick off
Friendly games but its still competitive.
Some very nice repaints in the field.

Equinox 2015 Prize getters and Armies part2

Hobbyists have worked hard to get some of their armies to tournament. There was a dazzling display of armies. Equinox has always been designed to champion competitors to get some games on the table and this year was no different. This means that we encourage you to come play where ever the stage of painting your army is at. The painting prizes are there to reward those that are here to show their armies off. The painting criteria is also relaxed but challenging so that there is a minimum standard before you come and you can decide whether you would like to achieve it or not. This is the modern day gamers and real life sometimes means you don't get as much time to hobby as you would like. This should never get in the way of coming to a event and meeting and sharing games with your fellow hobbyists.

Here's some of the highlights.

Big thanks to our sponsors who helped us with prizes for this tournament.
Here's just some of the guys who picked up some swag over the weekend.

There was some guy trying to show off his arms... I can't see anyone either.

It was great to see so many massive combats happening at every table.

Equinox 2015 Results & Pics part1.

Tropical storm up coming, no worries we'll just party it up and get some Hammer time at Equinox this tournament weekend. With upcoming Nationals in Auckland in Easter weekend, we had a more manageable turnout for Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer 40k and X-Wing. The atmosphere hummed with casual but competitive fun both days as tournament season continued in 2015.

The top 10 kept on changing leader all the way from round 3 till the end. A sure sign that you have a top field battling it out and using their armies to the extreme. It kept me on the edge of my seat every round. Without my usual bunny in the field who was unable to make it to the tournament I had to celebrate my 2nd to last placing (I guess I can only score pts against him ;) ). I enjoyed running Equinox and thanks goes out to the competitors, My fellow T.O's, and everyone who made Equinox happen this year.

Here's the results for WHFB and WH40k will follow once its processed.

Tournament Army Prep : Equinox

Big tournament coming up next weekend 'Equinox', requires a big army. My Ogres (Fatties) will be bringing up the numbers. We're at odd numbers so if I am required to play this will be the army you'll face. I won't be eligible for prizes so expect me to play a very friendly hobby based list. I've just textured and flocked the display board and semi finished the diorama's. Some quick finishing touches will have to be speed me thinks before next weekend.

We will be hosting a nice good number of hobbists over the weekend.
There will be some serious fun games of Hammer time going down.
Here's the Wargamers just for the WHFB tournament.
If your name isn't here and should be, email me.

Archaon End Times & Wave 6 Ships

It's been a full week of new releases. The last book of the End times is out for pre-order 'Archaon' , the Lord of the End times. For the X-Wing fans we get our hands on the New 'Most Wanted' faction of the game. I think I'm going to get all of these.

Along with last weeks Blood Thirster release, we get a whole lotta
new Khorne based Chaos stuff. For those of you who already have the Archaon mini, rest easy as it hasn't changed. Still a magnificent sculpt.
All the new releases look like they are still Square bases.

New units out are Warthmongers & Skull reapers.
Such a great move away from the current static warriors mini's.

Scum and Villainy (wave 6) has hit the shelves early in Auckland. We got our hands excitedly on the new faction and we were not disappointed. FFG has not let anyone down with the brilliant new paint scheme on the hordes of new ships plus the new upgrades. I got mine today and it was awesome. Expect space pirates to hit the mats at a table near you soon.
Hit your local brick n mortar and join the fun times.
