New 7th Warhamer 40K & Hobby round up

So a busy few weeks of real life and Wargaming events for me. All amongst the exciting news of a new 7th edition of WH40K and Ork Codex. GW is pumping a whole lot of new design into their biggest game system 40K. Exciting for most and it's been a bit too much for some.

Not having had time to indulge much in WH40K due to lotsa WHFB I think I have the advantage of not getting caught up in the massive upheaval of change and general barrage of roaring on the net. I can say from someone who hasn't planned on playing much 40K, all the new rich content and swag of models is making it very appealing to jump into the system both feet first. With Flyers, Super heavies, Pysker powers and new objectives the game is so much more than the skirmish pew pew game it used to be.

New 40K stuff :
New Ork Codex on the way.

Some of the new Pyschic powers and they look great.

Tournament: CanOpener 2014 - Gaming for Charity

CanOpener is the Local Club's Wargaming & Board Gaming annual Charity event. With all proceeds going to Charity it's a casual One-Dayer and this year we had a very good turnout of 100+. We had Warhammer Fantasy, 40K, Flames of War, Blood Bowl and a huge range of Board games. All in all it was great to see the community gathering to support a great charity just by playing games.

Over 1500 Cans of Food were raised for the Auckland City Mission just before the winter months. A supreme effort and a good figure to see if we can eclipse next year.

Ogres stomping Elves, everyone is happy...
 Mutalith in 1000pts!
Young bloods getting into the hobby.

Imagine about 20 times this pile and that was the final result.

Hobby:  Getting a few things done. Very eclectic and varied.

My 5th army of High Elves currently as the loan army at club. It needs heaps of work.

Clubs Open fire set get made up finally.

Tasty beverage from a huge handle.

My club on the Japan full contact roster.

Warhammer 40K 7th Edition out this weekend for preorder

Rejoice Warhammerers a new edition is due this weekend (a taste of it anyway).

Here's some tasty tidbits I got a hold of and it looks like GW have worked very hard to innovate and punctuate a clear and better version this time around. I've noticed with recent WHFB releases that the more new books released the more moderated and game tested they are, and I don't doubt it will be mirrored from here on in 40K.
Having been lucky enough to be able to have a sneak peak ahead, from a quick glance there's lots of changes, but they have been thought out and looks very flavourful. For all those doomsayers yup you got your rant and spotlight, now it's time for the new edition to shine.

Yes the New Rule book will be a trio of delights.
More limited editions for those thus inclined ;)
There are some very cool bit's starting to be released.
This is just a taste, can't wait to have a look at the tome!

Apologies for the size of the images. My desktop is on the fritz and the laptop just doesn't have much software. I've got heaps more sneak peaks, and will put them up when the desktop is running again.

May 4th Club Day

It's Star Wars day at the club! Thanks to Stan for snapping up some pics at Auckland City Guard Club this Sunday. I was up North on holiday, in search of some perfect terrain.

I found this terrain with aquatic and Los blocking tree features.

Wood Elves Book rules

I've managed to get a few pics of the rule book from the net and here are the definitive rules for the new Wood Elf book. Almost all the Elven archery is Str3 now but AP and only the Hail of doom arrow is Str4 (3d6).

With the Deepwood scouts (special) able to take anyone choice of the new magical arrows for the whole unit I think this will be the bulk makeup of most armies. With the lost of glade guard bows me thinks core tax will be filled with more eternal guard than you think esp with their stubborn. Well that's what I would consider doing anyways. Don't despair forest dweller the Specials are very synergised with the Magical items and Army rules of the new book too. They offer good punch with Wildwood rangers and some very good choice in Cavalry and the New access to magic lores.

'Every Wood Elf holds Kurnous and Isha above all other beings, but beyond that they make little distinction between the Gods of the Heavens, and the Gods of the Underworld. Instead they worship the calling of their own natures, embracing the wildness of Khaine as readily as the compassion of Lileath.'

No more Tree singing but woodies get both the High and Dark magic along with the 8 lores. Only way you get tree singing is to take the magical stave now.

Spirit Sword - 2d6 leadership roll off - wounds no armour saves if you lose
Daiths Rapier - re-roll to hit, to wound, successful armour saves
Bow of Loren - A+1 shots, cannot fire magical arrows
Helm of the hunt -+1ws, devastating charge, +1 armour save
Acorns of ages- Grow D3 Woods just before deployment
Moonstone of the Hidden ways - Our favourite teleporter is back
Hail of Doom - Str4, 3D6
Calaingor's Stave - generate one less spell to gain Tree singing 8+
Banner of the Eternal Queen - MR 3, one use Unbreakable
Banner of the Hunter king - Unit has Vanguard, rerolls first failed charge.

Army Special rules:

Forest Stalker
- All models volley fire with one extra rank
- All models Fight with one more supporting rank
- All models (not mounts) re-roll all to wound rolls of a 1.

Forest Spirit
-Forest strider
-Close combat and shooting attacks are magical
-Unmounted receives 6+ward

Asrai Long Bow
Str3, AP

Asrai Spear
User, AP

Magical Arrows
-Arcane       -3armour save
-Hogbane    Poisoned, AP
-Moofire      +1 wounding vs Forces of Order, Flaming
-Starfire       +1 wounding vs Forces of Destruction, AP
-Swiftshiver  Multiple shots (2), AP
-Trueflight    Do not suffer to hit penalties, AP

New Units and New stuff on Units:

WildWood Rangers - ASF, Forest stalkers allowing re-roll 1's to wound in close combat these guys are great. Up against Fear, terror causing you gain an additional attack to make these guys monster hunters.

Deepwood scouts - 13pts You get to equip these guys with the magical arrow arsenal. Must be the new flavour of the month.

Warhawk riders - Warhawks get killing blow on the charge making them viable again and such awesome models.

Glade Riders - Ambush now.

Sisters of the Thorn - Same as the new Warlocks with two different spells, Shield of Thorns and Curse of Anraheir. These would synergise very well even though they arn't as blatant as Doombolt.

Wildriders - Pretty much unchanged but Frenzyied.

It's Beer o'clock so I hope this gives you enough of a teaser to go get your book tomorrow. Have a good weekend fella's!

Warhammer Dual Kits saves you Lotsa $$$

I recently picked up the Doomfire Warlock dual kit. Very pleasantly surprised that they came with enough bits to make 5 Dark riders too, with the help of years of bits collecting.

Box o Warlocks

I had some old High Elf horses and Newer kit heads.
5 Darkriders appeared from the bits

This is very encouraging for the Next army in the collection. I did a rummage and managed to get a unit of Dark shards on the table too.
