W40K -- Canopener 2020 -- Wargaming for Charity

Wargaming for Charity --- Canopener 2020

One of my all time favourite events in Wargaming is this tourney. Playing with miniature armies but at the same time doing something for the community and supporting the Auckland mission winter kitchens with donations is awesome! This event is steeped in history and goes back a couple of decades past my time at our local Club 'ACG Inc', here in Auckland NZ. Always good to see 40k scene doing their bit and showing off their generosity to the max. This year we raised just over 500 cans for the cause and would have raised more but we're limiting the size of our events due to Covid this year. Only smaller events till next year hits for our community.

The day consisted of 1000pt armies and 4 games of 1v1 using ITC scenarios. The crowd was full of new players and it was the last hurrah for 8th edition of 40k. 9th edition has hit the shelves and all that new plastic will have to wait till the next event. So with familiar 8th edition armies we saw a good mix of factions in the field, with Marines making up a majority. I took Tau for the day and the drones repulsed some serious amount of fire power incoming.

Congratulations to the winners and to the very closely fought final games. The Title was decided by 1pt on the scenario. Third place had also only lost by a couple of points when he faced off against the Champion. Well done Liam for being crowned the eventual Victor!! Many thanks to all the competitors who came to support the event. Without you guys we wouldn't have such a friendly and welcoming wargaming show. Keep he wargaming strong and tell all your friends what a great game this is.

Apocalypse 2020 - Pandemonium edition

Always time for one of my favourite formats of the game of 40k, Apocalypse. We do it oldskool here in Auckland for Apoc games and just use straight 8th ed rules. We've held almost 10 games in this way and have had no problems getting to turn 6+ before 5pm in the afternoon with a 9am start. This time out we held two tables of 5v5, with 3000pts each player, which makes a massive battle of 15,000pts vs 15000pts. Playing with endless reserves as a rule the battle kept rolling through out the day. Much enjoyment had by the score of peeps taking part.

We had a roomy venue and lots of different armies taking part for this mid year affair. The second Apoc game is usually held just before Xmas and will be 9th ed by the looks. The atmosphere was cool, calm and relaxed where you could just roll dice with careless abandon. Perfect for a day of games with good company. I'll just let the pictures speak for a superb day had by all.

Many thanks to the ACG Club guys for attending and special mention to Ben for most of the epic pics!
